Korail (Korea Railroad Corporation) said on the 6th that 3.16 million passengers rode its trains over the six-day period from April 30 through May 5.

Over that stretch, about 1.97 million people took KTX—roughly 330,000 per day—while around 1.19 million rode regular services like Saemaeul and Mugunghwa, or about 200,000 per day, pushing the daily average above 530,000.

On Saturday, May 2, KTX carried about 367,000 passengers and total rail ridership hit roughly 577,000, setting new records.

Korail increased service to a total of 4,308 train runs during the period (KTX 2,202 runs; regular trains 2,106 runs). The company also rolled out travel packages tied to depopulated regions and local festivals, sold discounted online seats, promoted festival train trips both online and offline, and offered Korail MaaS partner discounts (rental cars, food and beverage, etc.) to make travel more convenient.

Lee Min-seong, Korail’s head of customer marketing, said, “We prepared thoroughly for the surge in demand during the holiday and were able to transport the record crowds safely. We will continue to provide safe and convenient rail service.”
