More than 3 million people took trains during the Golden Week holiday stretch from April 30 through Children’s Day on May 5.

Korail reported that KTX carried about 1.97 million passengers (roughly 330,000 per day), while conventional services like the Saemaeul and Mugunghwa trains carried about 1.19 million passengers (around 200,000 per day).

The busiest day was Saturday, May 2: about 367,000 riders used the KTX, and total rail ridership climbed to roughly 577,000 — both all-time highs.

Korail operated 4,308 train runs during the period (2,202 KTX runs and 2,106 conventional runs).

The company also promoted travel packages tied to depopulated regions and local festivals, sold discounted online seats, marketed festival train trips both online and offline, and offered Korail MaaS partner discounts for rental cars, food and beverages.

\”We prepared thoroughly for the surge in demand over the holiday and were able to transport passengers safely despite the record crowds,\” a Korail representative said. \”We will continue to deliver safe and convenient rail services.\”
