[MyDaily = Reporter Lee Ji-hye] With China now allowing visa-free entry, Hohhot—the capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region—is shaping up as a breezy summer escape for anyone craving wide-open grasslands. Korean travel agencies are already pitching it as a smart, less-crowded alternative to typical Mongolia routes during peak season.

On the 8th, Noni Tour announced that Jin Air will operate a twice-weekly charter between Incheon and Hohhot—Thursdays and Sundays—starting June 21, with a total of 21 roundtrips scheduled for the summer peak. The flight to Hohhot takes about 2 hours 40 minutes, nearly an hour shorter than the Incheon–Ulaanbaatar route, which averages around 3 hours 30 minutes.

The charter schedule lists outbound flight LJ841 leaving Incheon at 10:35 p.m. and arriving locally at 12:15 a.m., while the return flight LJ842 departs at 1:40 a.m. and arrives in Incheon at 5:00 a.m. Note that South Korea is one hour ahead of China.

Seats on the Ulaanbaatar route are limited, and fares often spike during the busy summer months. Flights to Hohhot, by contrast, tend to be more budget-friendly.

One of the charter package’s biggest perks is a fixed fuel surcharge. That means the price you lock in at booking won’t jump later because of volatile fuel fees—a real relief for travelers who’ve been hesitating while watching oil prices.

Although Inner Mongolia sits in northern China, its sweeping grasslands, deserts, and living nomadic traditions feel like a world apart. The summer climate is highland in nature—average elevation is about 1,700 m (roughly 5,577 ft)—so mornings and evenings stay pleasantly cool, making it an ideal escape from Korea’s summer heat.

Kubuqi Desert’s Xiangsawan, a China 5A tourist attraction, combines desert trekking, camel rides, and laid-back leisure in one spot. Sunset over the dunes is pure cinematic magic. On the Xilamulun grasslands, you can roam endless green pastures and breathe in fresh air, then catch traditional Mongolian performances after dark. And nothing beats lying under a sky of stars on the open steppe—many visitors call it unforgettable.

Hohhot’s city center has plenty to offer, too. The Five Pagoda Temple, built in 1727 during the Qing dynasty, is a key Buddhist site in Inner Mongolia, featuring five ornate stupas set atop a diamond throne. Sai Xiang Luoje recreates Ming and Qing architectural styles with earthen walls and tiled roofs, perfect for a stroll through history. Add the Inner Mongolia Museum—home to Asia’s largest collection of dinosaur and mammoth fossils—the national 4A historical site Wang Zhaojun Tomb, and Hohhotala Square, the city’s nearest urban grassland, and you’ve got a varied itinerary without long transfers.

Accommodations often include ger camps, modern takes on traditional nomadic yurts, where even a single overnight stay gives you a vivid taste of Mongolian pastoral life.

Park Ji-yeon, CEO of Noni Tour, said, “Inner Mongolia is a rare destination where you can experience grasslands and deserts in one trip. For group or family travel, fuel surcharge increases per passenger can add up—so we arranged Jin Air charters to offer travelers a worry-free, reasonably priced option.”
