Korea Fisheries and Harbor Corporation: “25,000 Visitors”

홍종욱

The Korea Fisheries and Harbor Corporation (Chairman Hong Jong-wook) said the 2026 Returning-to-the-Sea, Rural Resettlement & Coastal Tourism Fair, held at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul from May 11–13, drew roughly 25,000 visitors over three days and wrapped up on a high note.

Under the theme “Come to the Fishing Village!,” the event was designed to make information about moving to fishing communities and coastal tourism resources easy and accessible to city residents.

Thirty organizations, including national returning-to-the-sea centers and local governments, ran 41 booths to offer urban visitors both direct and indirect ways to experience coastal village life.

The venue was divided into themed zones to match visitors’ interests. In the Village Living Zone for prospective returnees, attendees could get one-on-one, tailored policy counseling and guidance on startup support.

The Our Village: Coastal Life program showcased real-life success stories from people who’ve settled in fishing villages and gave detailed looks at daily life—practical information that resonated with those considering the move.

The Coastal Fun Zone and Taste the Coast Zone highlighted workation options and regional tourism content, putting coastal leisure and local cuisine front and center.

A marketplace selling specialty goods made by returnees and a culinary experience called the One-Bite Seafood Journey used regional ingredients to introduce city dwellers to the rich appeal of coastal communities.

Programs centered on urban relaxation also proved popular. Sea Trance Sound Meditation, which used coastal imagery and the sound of waves, and the evening program Midnight Wave · Sound Reboot, running until 8 p.m., brought the calm vibe of the night sea to commuters and other urban visitors.

Chairman Hong Jong-wook said, “I hope this event gave busy city residents a chance to feel the warm spirit of coastal communities and see them as a possible new home. We will continue expanding diverse promotions and support to revitalize these areas.”
