[Herald Economy = Reporter Kwon Je-in] Korean Air announced on the 1st that it is expanding its pre-order in-flight meal service for first-class passengers on long-haul international flights departing from abroad.
Starting immediately, first-class passengers on select long-haul outbound routes can choose their in-flight meals before boarding.
The pre-order service lets travelers reserve their preferred menu ahead of departure. Korean Air first rolled this out in January 2023 for Prestige class on select international routes, then expanded it last October to first class on flights departing from Korea. With this update, first-class passengers on long-haul routes leaving from overseas will now be able to use the same service.
The nine eligible routes are Los Angeles (LA), New York, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and Washington in the U.S., plus Paris, London and Frankfurt. The pre-order menu will be available for flights departing on or after June 22.
Any first-class passenger on these Korean Air routes can use the service. Passengers can make selections through Korean Air’s website or mobile app from 21 days up to 24 hours before departure.
First-class travelers can preselect both the first and second meals. They start by choosing a main course—Korean, Western, or vegetarian—and then select an appetizer and a soup to pair with that main. In addition to the standard offerings, a dedicated pre-order vegetarian menu will be available.
A Korean Air spokesperson said, “By expanding the pre-order service that proved successful on flights departing Korea to outbound flights, we can offer first-class passengers a more personalized premium dining experience. We expect this will boost passenger satisfaction and also improve the stability of our in-flight meal operations.”
