Last Chance to Sail: Why This Massive Cruise Ship Is Selling Out Fast

Daniel Kim Views

Translation result.Panstar Enterprise just pulled off another sellout with the 114,000-ton Costa Serena on a chic Busan–Keelung–Nagasaki, 5-night/6-day escape — and the Sept. 2 sailing may be the ship’s last Asian voyage before it heads back to Europe. Departing Busan Port on the 22nd, the Costa Serena sailed at full capacity with roughly 2,800 passengers on board. Panstar chartered the Italian line Costa’s ship for this itinerary, which calls at Keelung, Taiwan, and Nagasaki, Japan. Tickets sold out almost immediately after launch.Company executives credit the success to Panstar’s planning and operational know-how as Korea’s only carrier with a cruise operating license, plus its customer-focused, Korea-tailored services. Panstar has long been a pioneer in the domestic cruise market: it launched Korea’s first one-night cruise in 2004 and coastal cruises in 2008, and it has recently expanded into chartering large international vessels.Unlike a simple ticket reseller, Panstar runs ship operations, onboard services, and port programs directly, which helps ensure higher quality. As a shipping company that operates its own vessels, it can offer overseas trips at more reasonable prices. The cruise model also appeals to consumers: no fuel surcharges and an All-Inclusive setup that covers lodging, meals, and entertainment make cruising an increasingly attractive option.Panstar will operate the next sailing from Busan on Sept. 2 — a 5-night/6-day route calling at Sasebo, Japan; Shanghai, China; and Seogwipo, Jeju, before returning to Busan. The voyage carries special significance because the Costa Serena is scheduled to leave Asian routes and return to Europe at the end of the year, so this could be the final Serena voyage Panstar operates.Freshly refurbished, the Costa Serena boasts a large theater, multiple restaurants, pools and water slides, a casino, and duty-free shops — making time on board its own unforgettable part of the trip. A Panstar Cruises spokesperson said, “This full-capacity sailing reflects the trust and love our customers have shown. Since the September sailing may be the last chance to experience the Costa Serena with Panstar, we’ll repay that support with richer programs and distinctive service.”
