In motorboat racing, there are procedures called final inspection and introduction runs. These help predict race outcomes. Paying close attention to these can be beneficial for result forecasting.

The final inspection is a process where athletes check the motors and boats they’ve been assigned. After completing designated training, athletes record their speed by racing at full throttle along a straight 150-meter stretch from the first turn mark to the second. The introduction run is when athletes record their speed by racing at full throttle along the same 150-meter straight section just before the actual race.

Final inspection results are published on the website on Tuesday before race days. These are then updated sequentially with morning training records from Wednesday and Thursday, the actual race days. By following this progression, it’s possible to gauge the condition of both athletes and motors. Athletes whose performance numbers gradually improve compared to Tuesday’s designated training are likely to be more competitive in the actual race.

The introduction run can be viewed as the final stage for checking the combination of boat and motor before the race. It also measures the full-speed record over 150 meters right before the race. As the last data collected before the race, it’s effective in determining the compatibility between athlete and motor, as well as their condition on race day. Some athletes adjust their motor settings after the introduction run. These competitors might have slower introduction run times compared to their rivals but can sometimes produce unexpected results. However, typically, athletes with faster introduction run times have a higher probability of placing. Introduction run records are also available on the motorboat racing website or displayed on the scoreboard at the start of each race.

In motorboat racing, victories can be decided by as little as 0.1 seconds. With recent improvements in athletes’ skills across the board, predicting outcomes based on simple race dynamics has become more challenging. As motor performance has become a crucial variable influencing race flow, final inspections and introduction runs have emerged as key indicators for effectively predicting results.

An expert from a motorboat racing prediction publication advised that the most practical method for getting ahead in predicting race outcomes is to comprehensively compare the progression of records from final inspection to introduction run.
