Team Korea Maintains Momentum in WBC Opener South Korea’s national baseball team came out swinging in their 2026 World Baseball Classic debut. The squad faced off against the Czech Republic on March 5 at Tokyo Dome in the first game of Group C action. The Korean bats wasted no time, as Moon Bo-gyeong crushed a grand slam over the right-center field fence in the bottom of the first inning with one out. This early offensive explosion set the tone for the game. Building on their hot start, Korea continued to apply pressure in the second frame. Leadoff hitter Park Dong-won ripped a double down the left field line, followed by Kim Joo-won’s single to right on the first pitch he saw. With runners on the corners and nobody out, Kim Do-young flew out to the infield. However, on Tommy Edman’s grounder to shortstop, Park Dong-won scampered home to extend Korea’s lead to 5-0. Edman then swiped second base, and Lee Jung-hoo drew a walk to put runners on second and third with two outs. The threat ended when Ahn Hyun-min popped out to second base, but the damage was done. After two innings of play, South Korea holds a commanding 5-0 advantage over the Czech Republic. [By Shin Seo-young, Sports Today Reporter sports@stoo.com]
