Strengthening Ties: Highlights of President Lee Jae-myung’s 3-Day Visit to Vietnam

Translation result베트남을 [Herald Economy (Hanoi) = Reporter Seo Sang-young] President Lee Jae-myung arrived at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport aboard the presidential aircraft on April 21 (local time).

President Lee is undertaking a three-night, four-day state visit to Vietnam — South Korea’s largest trading partner in Southeast Asia — through April 24.

During the visit, he will hold a summit with To Lam, Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President, to discuss concrete measures for strengthening strategic, mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries amid rising global uncertainty.

The visit is the first state event hosted by Vietnam’s new leadership, which took office earlier this month, and is significant as a reciprocal trip occurring eight months after To Lam’s visit to South Korea last August.

After arriving in Hanoi, the president will rest for a day. On April 22 his schedule begins with a meeting with the Korean community, followed by a wreath-laying at the mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh — Vietnam’s founding father — and an official welcome ceremony.

At the summit with To Lam, the two leaders will exchange memorandums of understanding (MOUs), issue a joint press statement, and attend a state banquet. On April 23, President Lee will meet Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, Vietnam’s second-highest-ranking official, and will hold talks and a luncheon with National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, the country’s third-highest-ranking official.
