[Sports Seoul | Senior Political Reporter Sang-bae Lee] Lee In-gyu, the candidate for Dongducheon mayor, joined Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheong-rae in Dongducheon on the 5th to hear local voters and formally launch his campaign. Gyeonggi provincial party chair Kim Seung-won and lawmakers Choi Min-hee and Park Ji-hye accompanied them to lend support.
Lee and Jeong visited the five-day market at Dongducheon’s main market, where they spent about an hour meeting merchants and residents one-on-one and listening to their concerns. Lee heard directly about merchants’ hardships amid the prolonged economic downturn and residents’ expectations for local development, reinforcing his conviction that Dongducheon needs change.
Lee said, “Dongducheon has failed to seize growth opportunities because of regulatory constraints and delayed development. I will turn the urgent concerns citizens shared into concrete policies to revive the local economy and strengthen the city’s competitiveness.”
At a later stop at Jeong’s campaign office, Lee took time to encourage staff and volunteers. He said, “I deeply appreciate Representative Jeong Cheong-rae and the party leadership for coming to Dongducheon despite their busy schedules. We will win this election and deliver new change for Dongducheon.”
Lee formally proposed several locally tailored priority policies to Jeong, including: △introducing a deferred-payment development model for returned U.S. military sites and developing a hub for a ‘peace economy’ special zone; and △enacting a special law to create a college-admission exception for students who live in U.S. military-provided areas.
Lee explained, “Overcoming Dongducheon’s structural limitations requires institutional support at the national level. With realistic alternatives and implementable policies, we will open the area’s future.”
Lee said he plans to accelerate policy efforts for Dongducheon’s development through close cooperation with the party. sangbae0302@sportsseoul.com
