Kim Tae-heum, the People Power Party’s preliminary candidate for governor of Chungcheongnam-do, chose Cheonan as his first official stop after declaring his bid for re-election, formally launching his campaign.

Immediately after the announcement, he traveled to Cheonan — the province’s largest city — to focus on everyday livelihoods, veterans’ issues and other local concerns, reinforcing his image as a hands-on, on-the-ground candidate.

On the morning of the 8th, Kim held a press conference at the Chungnam provincial government press center, formally announcing his run for a second term. “If we laid the foundation for a ‘Strong Chungnam’ over the past four years, now it is time to complete a ‘Great Chungnam’ together with residents,” he said.

He then went directly to Cheonan and attended a Parents’ Day ceremony at Baekseok Culture University, where he greeted elderly attendees and expressed his gratitude.

At the event he said, “Today’s Korea was built by our elders,” adding, “I will further strengthen Chungnam-style basic welfare so the province can fully shoulder responsibility for seniors’ well‑being throughout their retirement.”

In the afternoon, he visited the Cheonan Veterans Hall and held talks with representatives of independence patriots’ groups and veterans’ organizations.

Kim said, “Whenever the nation has been shaken, the Chungcheong region has stood firm. That spirit is Chungnam’s pride.” He pledged to “enhance recognition and support so that the families of those who served the country can take pride in their sacrifice.”

That day he also met with local reporters in the Cheonan City Hall press room. He outlined specific proposals for northern Chungnam, including a Cheonan–Asan dome arena and a revamp of Cheonan’s public transit system, presenting a broader blueprint for regional development.

He reiterated his determination to develop the Cheonan–Asan area into a national center for future industries and culture, saying, “I will strengthen Chungnam’s growth engine and transform it into a key hub that drives South Korea’s economy.”

Kim Tae-heum appealed for support, saying, “The results are already there under Kim Tae-heum — now enlarge and strengthen that momentum,” and vowed, “I will deliver greater achievements to restore residents’ pride.”

Meanwhile, on the 9th at 3 p.m., Kim plans to hold an opening ceremony for the “The Ssen Camp” at his Baekseok-dong campaign office in Cheonan, with People Power Party leaders, local lawmakers and supporters expected to attend and rally the base.
