Why Was Jeon Han-gil Cut from Netflix’s ‘Bokssak Sogassuda’? The Controversial Politics Behind the Edit

Conservative YouTuber Jeon Han-gil (real name Jeon Yu-gwan), a former Korean history instructor, said he was completely cut from the Netflix drama 폭싹 속았수다. He suggested that singer‑actress IU, whom he described as left‑leaning, can appear in dramas, while he, as a right‑leaning figure, cannot.

On the 14th, during a live broadcast on his YouTube channel while speaking with actor Choi Jun‑yong, Jeon addressed the complete cut. He said, “I didn’t know during filming, but after martial law was declared, she handed out coffee to people who supported the impeachment.”

He said someone—possibly the director—called to warn that “a drama we’ve prepared for years could be misunderstood because of your political color.” Jeon added that today he would push back and ask, “What are you talking about?” but at the time he didn’t want to harm the production, so he told them, “You can edit it.”

He also claimed that after he had been boastful for a while, the production suddenly went quiet when he threatened to report them to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.

In April, Jeon raised the complete‑cut incident with the Chosun Ilbo. He said the production company recently notified him that they had edited him out, and because he didn’t want to cause harm he simply replied, “I understand.” He argued that if he had been aligned with the so‑called left, the incident would have erupted into reports calling it a “blacklist” or “political repression.”

Netflix responded that month, confirming Jeon had made a cameo but saying the company carried out various edits and reshoots to ensure the final product met its quality standards.
