The U.S. Senate voted to bring to the floor a bill that would require President Trump either to withdraw U.S. forces from any Iran-related conflict or to secure congressional authorization. According to the Associated Press and other outlets, the Senate voted 50–47 to advance the measure limiting the president’s war powers with respect to Iran. After President Trump ordered strikes on Iran in late February, House and Senate Democrats repeatedly pushed for a war powers resolution. Republicans routinely blocked those efforts until this week, when four GOP senators broke with their party. Senators Rand Paul, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski — all of whom had supported similar resolutions in the past — voted in favor again. Bill Cassidy, who last week lost a primary to a Trump-backed challenger, voted yes for the first time, providing the decisive margin.Following his primary defeat, Cassidy returned to Washington and said he takes pride in defending the Constitution and would scrutinize the Trump administration’s policies closely. The bill now moves toward a final floor vote, though no date has been set.#US #Senate #House #Trump #Iran #Withdrawal #Republicans #Democrats Yonhap News TV inquiries and tips: KakaoTalk/LINE jebo23; Kang Eun-na-rae (rae@yna.co.kr)
