Trump Warns of ‘Larger and More Powerful’ Attacks on Iran

Translation result.도널드 [Herald Economy=Reporter Lee Won-yul] U.S. President Donald Trump warned on May 25 (local time) that if talks with Iran fail again, any military action against Iran would be larger and more forceful.

Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social that negotiations with Iran were progressing smoothly and that the result would be either “a great deal for everyone” or “no deal,” Yonhap News Agency reported.

He added that if talks collapse, “we will return to the battlefield and resume attacks — which will be larger and more powerful than ever,” and said, “nobody wants that.”

Trump: “It will be the opposite of the Obama administration’s deal”

Earlier on Truth Social, Trump characterized any deal with Iran as the opposite of the “JCPOA disaster” negotiated by the Obama administration.

The JCPOA refers to the 2015 nuclear agreement (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) between Iran and Western powers, reached during the Barack Obama administration.

Trump has argued that the JCPOA provided “a direct and open path for Iran to get nuclear weapons,” and said, “I would not make such a deal.”

He made those remarks as reports suggested a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end hostilities between the U.S. and Iran was nearing completion.

Yonhap reported that the MOU draft would call for the U.S. and Iran to extend a 60-day ceasefire, reopen the Strait of Hormuz during that period, and continue negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.

However, both sides have offered differing accounts of how far they have progressed toward agreement on nuclear issues — notably Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, which remains a principal sticking point.
