Cubs’ 10-Game Skid: From MLB Power Rankings to Division Slump

[MyDaily = Reporter Sim Jae-hee] The Chicago Cubs have tumbled into a shocking 10-game losing streak. After early-season highs that included two separate 10-game winning streaks and a No. 1 spot on MLB.com’s team power rankings, the club’s form has been wildly inconsistent, and the current skid has sent them downward.

On May 27, 2026 (Korean time), the Cubs fell 1-12 at the Pittsburgh Pirates’ PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Coming off a 1-2 loss the previous day, Chicago was stifled again, surrendering 15 hits and 12 runs.

The trouble started immediately. Pittsburgh scored five runs in the bottom of the first to put the Cubs on their heels. Chicago managed a run in the top of the second, but that was all the offense produced. The Pirates added three runs in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead to 8-1, then scored in the sixth and seventh and added two more in the eighth to close it out. Starter Jordan Wicks struggled, allowing nine hits and eight runs over 4.1 innings, while the Cubs’ lineup couldn’t solve opposing starter Braxton Ashcraft, who worked 6.1 innings and allowed seven hits and one run.

The skid now stands at 10 games. Chicago has lost every game since the May 17 road series at the White Sox. The team had surged earlier with two separate 10-game winning streaks in late April and early May, but the recent slump has erased that momentum. With both offense and defense out of sync, the Cubs find themselves mired in a losing spiral. They’ll try to end the streak in the May 28 road game at Pittsburgh.

◆ Cubs — Last 10 Games
– May 27 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (road) L 1-12
– May 26 vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (road) L 1-2
– May 25 vs. Houston Astros (home) L 5-8
– May 24 vs. Houston Astros (home) L 0-3
– May 23 vs. Houston Astros (home) L 2-4
– May 21 vs. Milwaukee Brewers (home) L 0-5
– May 20 vs. Milwaukee Brewers (home) L 2-5
– May 19 vs. Milwaukee Brewers (home) L 3-9
– May 18 vs. Chicago White Sox (road) L 8-9
– May 17 vs. Chicago White Sox (road) L 3-8

The Cubs are 29-26 (.527). Despite twice posting 10-game winning streaks that pushed them above .500, they’ve slipped from first place in the National League Central to the lower half of the division. Chicago now shares fourth place with Pittsburgh and sits 1.5 games behind the Cincinnati Reds (29-25, .537). They trail division leader Milwaukee (32-20, .615) by 4.5 games.
