Argentina’s soccer icon Lionel Messi has booked a place at his sixth World Cup. On the 29th (Korea time), the Argentine Football Association announced its final 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup in North America, confirming Messi’s selection. That makes Messi, alongside Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, the first players in World Cup history to appear in six consecutive tournaments.Messi made his World Cup debut at Germany 2006 and has since played in five editions, totaling 26 matches and 13 goals. Widely expected to be his final World Cup, he will also chase Germany’s Miroslav Klose’s all-time World Cup scoring record of 16 goals.Messi, who is competing in Major League Soccer (MLS) alongside Son Heung-min, injured his left hamstring in an MLS regular-season match on the 25th, raising concerns. The injury, however, did not prevent him from joining the squad headed to North America.Argentina, which lifted the trophy at the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Messi leading the charge, will aim to win consecutive titles. Only Italy (1934, 1938) and Brazil (1958, 1962) have successfully defended the World Cup crown.#Messi #WorldCup #Argentina #soccer #nationalteamYonhap News TV — Tips and inquiries: KakaoTalk/LINE jebo23.
