[Sports Today reporter Lee Sang‑pil] “I’ll prepare thoroughly and achieve my goal.”

Lee So‑mi tees off in the season’s second major, the 81st U.S. Women’s Open, starting June 4 (local time) at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California (par 71 / 6,699 yards).

A member of the LPGA Tour since 2024, Lee notched her first LPGA victory in June 2025 when she and Lim Jin‑hee won the two-player Dow Championship.

Lee has been steady this season with three top‑10 finishes. She picked up momentum last week with a T4 at the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Making her first U.S. Women’s Open start in two years, Lee is targeting her first major title. Her best U.S. Women’s Open finish to date was a tie for 33rd in 2023.

In a pre-tournament interview with the U.S. Women’s Open, Lee admitted the course is playing long this year and that concerns her, but said she’ll prepare more and aim to finish strong.

She called the rough tricky, noting the clubhead can catch the grass after a shot. Still, she emphasized a simple plan: “If I find the fairway, I can keep things under control.”

Asked which hole stood out, she picked the 18th. “After the tee shot there’s an uphill, and the sequence that follows is pretty — that hole sticks with me,” she said.

Lee also expressed her desire to win. “Every player is out there to win, and I’m no different,” she said. “I’ll prepare even more precisely and do what it takes to reach my goal.”

Lee will start at 1:36 p.m. local time on June 4 from the 1st hole, paired with England’s Mimi Rose and Japan’s Fuka Suga.
