[Sports Today reporter Song Oh-jung] Actor Lee Dong-hwi cleared up the confusion over how much his viral “Pumba” outfit actually cost.
On the March 11 episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block (hereafter You Quiz), Lee sat down with the hosts and talked about the now-famous Pumba outfit.

Lee first turned heads wearing the Pumba outfit on the variety show I Live Alone. Host Yoo Jae-suk laughed, “It’s so hard these days to beat a trend to the punch. Consider yourself lucky,” and couldn’t hide his amusement.
The conversation then turned to the outfit’s price. Some reports claimed Lee’s Pumba outfit cost 7,000,000 KRW (approximately $5,250), but Lee corrected the story: “That’s not the price reported in the media. I bought it in that country for exactly one-quarter of that price.”

He admitted he agonized over whether to splurge. “When I wore it on public transit or out and about, nobody paid it any attention—at least until it got labeled ‘Pumba clothes.’ After the episode aired, I wore it once and a kid started yelling, ‘Pumba! Pumba!’ and followed me, so I ran away,” he said, half-amused about his unexpected fame.
He recalled the purchase: a shop attendant told him, “This just came in today; there’s only one left. It’s the most popular item here.” He thought it looked cool but hesitated. Then someone offhandedly said, “Tax refund, OK,” so he figured, “Let’s buy something special at this price,” and went for it. He stressed again that he definitely wouldn’t have bought it at the higher price reported by the media.
Yoo Jae-suk mused that fashion often comes from bold experiments, and Lee quipped back, “That’s true, but I think I might have gone a bit too bold,” which drew laughs.
