A debate has erupted over which Saturday wedding start time—11:00 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.—is more appropriate.

Blind, the anonymous workplace forum, recently ran a poll titled “Ceremony time: Saturday 11:00 a.m. vs. 2:30 p.m.” The poster asked guests which time they preferred, assuming meal quality, parking and other conditions were equal.

Replies recounted a range of experiences and opinions, touching off a lively debate over the two slots.

Supporters of an 11:00 a.m. ceremony said it frees up the rest of the day.

One commenter said that if you rush a little in the morning you can attend the ceremony, enjoy a good lunch and still use the afternoon for personal errands or a family outing, so they preferred 11:00 a.m.

Others argued that an afternoon ceremony can tie up the entire day, so they’d rather have the event finish earlier.

By contrast, several respondents favored the 2:30 p.m. start, saying it allows people to make full use of a weekend morning.

One poster wrote that Saturday mornings are for sleeping in or preparing at a relaxed pace after a long workweek; attending an 11:00 a.m. ceremony can mean a rushed salon visit and unnecessary stress.

Another commenter added that if guests are traveling from out of town or moving a long distance, an afternoon ceremony is a more considerate choice.

Meal satisfaction also came up. Some noted that morning ceremonies—served first—often offer fresher food.

Critics of the 2:30 p.m. slot said it falls awkwardly between lunch and dinner, leaving guests unsure whether to eat beforehand and forcing some to attend hungry.

They added that post-ceremony dining can feel disjointed because it’s unclear whether the meal should be considered lunch or dinner.

Supporters countered that an afternoon ceremony makes it easy to move directly into an after-party or evening gathering with friends.

Community members concluded that the ideal start time ultimately depends on guests’ locations, travel distances and age demographics.
