5km Family Marathon Challenge: Tips for Running with Kids Safely

A family ran hand in hand in the Daejeon Three Major Rivers Marathon. The participants were Jin Geon-hee (39) and Lee Jong-seop (39) and their sons Lee Gi-baek (9) and Lee Gi-hyun (6).

Their easy camaraderie was evident even before the race began. Jin said she entered the event to run with her family. She and her husband trained consistently in the weeks leading up to the race and set one clear goal: to finish. “This is my first marathon with my sons, and I think it will become a meaningful memory,” she said, adding that “the course is nice and the weather is perfect for running.” She also noted that both boys are young, so she isn’t sure they’ll be able to complete the full distance; the family’s aim is simply to finish the 5 km (3.1 miles) safely and without injury. Lee added, “My wife and I started running to develop a healthy hobby, and this event will make me train even harder.”{vi11}
