[Sports Today reporter Song O-jung] Actress Oh Yeon-ah led the opening performance of the play Jeonghee, delivering a finely calibrated, emotionally charged turn.

Jeonghee, starring Oh Yeon-ah (produced by T2N Media Co., Ltd.; co-produced by Rhino Company; planning cooperation by Studio Dragon), is a spin-off set in the world of tvN’s My Mister. The production centers a familiar yet underexamined character, Jeonghee, and builds a new, standalone narrative around her.

On the 2nd, Oh Yeon-ah took the stage as the owner of the neighborhood bar, Jeonghee, a childhood friend of the Dong-hoon brothers. She anchored the evening with a performance that resonated deeply with the audience. Moving between buoyant charm and weary resignation, she embodied Jeonghee through controlled breath, subtle facial shifts, and precise physical detail, fully transforming into the role and earning sustained applause.

Early in the play, her portrayal of crushing loneliness within the cracked walls of Jeonghee’s was quietly devastating. A scene in which she drinks and delivers a drunken monologue conveyed the character’s plight with persuasive immediacy, pulling the audience into the moment. Later, with a plaintive, weighty voice, she exposed the long-standing rupture with Gyeom-deok (Lee Kang-woo), and a subsequent moment—when she installs a window in Jeonghee’s—served as a potent emotional reset that held the room’s attention.

Equally affecting were the warmer, more playful notes Oh Yeon-ah found in Jeonghee. A breezy joke to repairman Garam (Heo Young-son), attentive care for Jian (Kwon So-hyun), and an easy smile paired with lively delivery revealed the character’s humanity in striking contrast to her pain. At one point she seemed to repair both the shop and the people in it—hammer in hand, almost dancing—gradually transforming Jeonghee’s into a tender, lived-in space and leaving the audience with a resonant aftertaste.

After the performance, during the curtain speech, Oh Yeon-ah said, “I joined this production because I wanted to try reorganizing my life. I’m grateful to my fellow actors, the staff, and the production team. Life doesn’t always change in a single, dramatic way. Just meeting the audience tonight feels like the start of that reorganization. Thank you.” She closed the opening night to generous applause.

As Jeonghee’s lead, Oh Yeon-ah carried the 100-minute production with sustained emotional clarity. The actor—who has shown notable range in stage and screen projects including the theatrical version and drama My Mister, the series Mary Kills People, Eunsu’s Good Day, The Hunter with a Scalpel, and The Fiend—continues to build on a strong track record with this new stage role.

Jeonghee, featuring Oh Yeon-ah, runs at YES24 Art One Theater 3 through Sunday, June 14.
