On June 2, MBC’s ‘PD수첩’ aired an episode titled “MC Mong and the Chairman’s K-pop Trade Secrets,” examining Won Hundred and singer MC Mong, who co-founded the company with Cha Ga-won.
The broadcast opened with Cha Ga-won’s warning: “If I speak up, I’ll take a lot of hits. This industry could be turned upside down.” The program highlighted a string of contract disputes as artists left Won Hundred and raised questions about the company’s financial management. In his interview with the production team, Cha said there was no grand plan behind his entry into the entertainment business — he met MC Mong by chance and learned the company needed investment, and at the time he heard very optimistic reports.
Describing the business split with MC Mong, who has faced prostitution allegations, Cha said MC Mong and Cha’s uncle joined forces in an attempt to take control of the company. He said the situation left him unable to defend the business and that the company soon spiraled out of control.
By contrast, Cha’s uncle told the production team that Cha spent large sums to pay off MC Mong’s debts. The program reported that amount at 30 billion KRW (approximately $22.5 million). In his interview, Cha acknowledged there were many rumors and misunderstandings circulating, but he insisted that none of the company’s funds were used for personal expenses or unsavory activities such as gambling.
