The Gyeonggi branch of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF), led by Eom Beom-sik, kicked off the ‘2026 Lunar New Year Gyeonggi-do Premium Agricultural Products Expo’ on January 10th. Joining forces with Kim Yun-bae, head of Yangseong Nonghyup, and Min Seon-hong, manager of the Suwon Distribution Center, they aimed to capture the holiday shopping rush.

The venue buzzed with excitement as consumers, gearing up for the upcoming Lunar New Year festivities, streamed in to stock up on traditional foods and gift sets. Shelves brimmed with holiday favorites like crisp apples, sweet dried persimmons, and premium ginseng. Sharp-eyed shoppers meticulously compared prices and gift set contents, while others navigated the aisles with carts piled high with festive goodies.

This special expo showcased Gyeonggi-do’s finest, offering coveted Lunar New Year gifts like locally grown pears, apple gift sets, ginseng packages, and premium Hanwoo beef soup kits at up to 20% off market prices. The star attractions – Yangseong pears and Pocheon apples – flew off the shelves in a mere 10 minutes, creating a buzz-worthy sellout.

Kim Hyun-seok, a Suwon resident in his 60s who snagged five fruit gift sets, shared, “I swung by thinking the supermarket would have a great selection for my business contacts. It’s so convenient to knock out all my gift shopping in one go! I had no idea about this expo, but the deals are fantastic, and the quality looks top-notch.” Mrs. Eom, a 50-something shopper accompanied by her daughter, chimed in, “I missed out on the lightning deals, but these Cheongha tangerines look absolutely divine – I couldn’t resist grabbing a few boxes!”

This expo serves a dual purpose: showcasing Gyeonggi-do’s agricultural excellence while boosting farmers’ incomes and offering budget-friendly options to holiday shoppers. A Gyeonggi Nonghyup spokesperson gushed, “The response to our 20% off deals at the Suwon Distribution Center has been phenomenal! We’re committed to promoting our hardworking Gyeonggi farmers’ premium produce.”

The Gyeonggi-do Premium Agricultural Products Expo is a beloved tradition, popping up annually before both Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays.

Eom Beom-sik, head of the Gyeonggi NACF, emphasized, “Through our ‘Nongshim Cheonsim Movement,’ we’re dedicated to supporting our farmers and revitalizing rural communities. We hope families across the region will celebrate a warm Lunar New Year with Gyeonggi-do’s delicious local bounty.”

In a parallel effort, Gyeonggi Nonghyup conducted thorough inspections of holiday essentials’ supply and safety at local Hanaro Marts and other agricultural retail outlets. They also monitored the ongoing ‘Gyeonggi-do Agricultural and Fishery Product Discount Coupon Event’ to ensure smooth operations.
