Some 10,000 visitors—tourists and locals alike—turned out for the opening ceremony, ramping up the festival’s buzz.

From the very first moments, attendees packed the grounds to indulge in pen shell dishes, creating a lively, celebratory atmosphere.

The festival runs through May 5, spotlighting the season’s best pen shells harvested from Jangheung’s pristine waters—and aiming to give the local economy a tasty boost.

From Jangheung samhap to grilled pen shell, sweet-and-sour pork, and comforting rice porridge, the menu has been winning over visitors’ taste buds and proving why this is a must-visit spring food festival.

Beyond the food, the event serves up plenty of hands-on fun and live performances: pen shell shucking and slicing workshops, cultural activities for kids, and even a pen shell song contest that gets the crowd involved.

With activities for every age, the festival continues to draw families in large numbers.

Timed for Family Month in May, the celebration has filled the grounds with laughter and energy, helping it cement its place as the region’s signature spring event.

A Jangheung County official said, “The festival got off to a smooth start amid strong interest from tourists and residents. We will do our best to ensure the event remains safe and enjoyable through its close.”
