[iNews24 reporter David Jeon] Paikdabang, part of The Born Korea group, is jumping on the global ube craze.

Paikdabang announced on the 12th that it will roll out three new ube items starting on the 14th.
The new lineup includes the Ube Latte (Iced), Fresh Cream Ube Latte (Iced), and Ube Ice Cream (soft-serve or yogurt), each showcasing ube’s signature purple hue and silky, sweet flavor.
The Ube Latte blends milk and ube into a smooth, balanced drink that highlights ube’s subtle sweetness. Customers can top it with soft-serve ice cream or tapioca pearls for an extra indulgent twist.
The Fresh Cream Ube Latte is finished with a dollop of real whipped cream for a richer, more decadent taste—stirring the cream into the drink creates an even more harmonious flavor.
The Ube Ice Cream turns ube’s natural sweetness into a dessert offering, served as soft-serve or yogurt-style ice cream depending on the store.
Across the global café and bakery scene, the color-food trend has been growing as brands use the natural pigments of ingredients to deliver eye-catching visuals alongside fresh taste experiences. Ube, a purple yam mainly grown in the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia, is prized for its vivid purple color, gentle sweetness, and subtly nutty notes. As a leading example of this trend, ube has quickly drawn worldwide attention.
Last month, Twosome Place introduced three ube drinks and one ube dessert. Its signature “Twosome Ube Latte” shot to No. 1 in the non-coffee drinks category and No. 4 overall within three days of launch. Twosome later added an “Ube Café Latte” with an espresso shot to broaden the lineup.
Starbucks initially sold the “Ube Basque Cheesecake” as a limited item at 100 domestic stores last month, then expanded it nationwide after ten days. Tim Hortons rolled out three new ube items under the concept of “color therapy,” framing the offerings as a joyful, colorful drinking experience.
A Paikdabang representative said, “As consumers increasingly value novel visuals and new flavor experiences, we designed a seasonal menu that lets people enjoy ube’s signature purple color and subtle sweetness without hesitation. We will continue to introduce drinks and desserts that reflect trends and customer tastes.”
