Michelin-Star Restaurant Scandal: Was a $75 Wine Swap Intentional?

Daniel Kim Views

Translation result안성재 Chef Ahn Seong-jae, best known for the “Black-and-White Chef” series, runs the restaurant Mosu. The restaurant has issued an apology after allegations surfaced that staff swapped wines during service.

On the 23rd, Mosu posted on its official channel that during a wine-pairing service on the 19th they failed to provide clear guidance, which caused confusion. The statement said the follow-up explanations were also insufficient and offered a formal apology for the recently reported incident.

Mosu added that they personally apologized to the affected guest and that the guest accepted the apology, but acknowledged that their response did not meet the expectations patrons have for the restaurant.

The restaurant said Chef Ahn and the entire Mosu team are taking the matter very seriously. They promised to review all related services and implement measures to prevent a recurrence.

Meanwhile, on the 21st a diner identified only as A claimed they dined at two-Michelin-star Mosu, ordered the wine-pairing set, and were served a different vintage than the menu listed. The pairing list specified Château Léoville Barton, Saint-Julien, 2000 vintage, but the diner says they were poured a 2005 vintage that was ₩100,000 (about $75) cheaper. The diner also posted that the on-duty sommelier did not apologize that day and criticized the restaurant’s handling of the situation.
