Rumors have been swirling about a potential inheritance dispute between Gu Junyeop, former member of K-pop group Clone and widower of late Taiwanese star Seohui Won, and her family. However, Won’s relatives have vehemently denied these claims, dismissing them as “malicious rumors.”

On January 10th, Taiwanese media outlet TVBS reported allegations that Won’s mother had hired legal counsel to block Gu from inheriting her daughter’s estate. Some outlets even suggested that Gu was preparing his own legal response. These claims, however, have been debunked as baseless speculation.

“I despise lawsuits. They’re a waste of money and manpower,” Won’s mother stated emphatically. “I now call Gu Junyeop my son. He deeply loved my daughter, respects me, and I love him too.” Her words unequivocally refute any notion of family discord.

Won’s brother, Seohui Je, also weighed in through his manager, condemning the rumor-mongers: “Those spreading such malicious gossip have impure motives and wicked hearts.”

He further emphasized, “My brother-in-law Gu Junyeop gave my sister the purest love and brought her true happiness. We’ll be eternally grateful to him. He’s family, and we’ll protect him, never causing him harm. Let these rumors end here.”

Seohui Won’s estate is reportedly valued at approximately 10 billion Taiwanese dollars (roughly 460 billion KRW (about 345 million USD)). Gu previously addressed the inheritance issue, stating, “All assets are the precious fruits of Heewon’s hard work for her family,” and expressed his intention to transfer his legal inheritance rights to Won’s mother.

Gu and Won’s love story spans decades. They first met and dated briefly in the late 1990s but separated due to practical challenges. Following Won’s divorce in 2021, the couple reunited after more than 20 years apart and tied the knot in 2022.

Tragically, Won passed away unexpectedly in February during a family trip to Japan, succumbing to flu complications and pneumonia. On February 2nd, marking the first anniversary of her death, Gu unveiled a memorial statue he personally designed, capturing public attention.

Sources close to Gu report that he visits his late wife’s grave daily. On their fourth wedding anniversary, December 8th, he was spotted by local netizens bringing cake and wine to her resting place, a poignant gesture that touched many.
