President Donald Trump warned he would destroy critical Iranian oil infrastructure, including Kharg Island, if talks to end hostilities with Iran fail.
On March 30, Trump posted on Truth Social, the platform he founded, saying the United States is in serious talks with a new, more reasonable regime to end military operations in Iran. He said the talks had made significant progress but cautioned that if they do not produce an agreement soon — and if the Strait of Hormuz does not immediately reopen to commercial traffic — the U.S. will take other measures.
Trump added that if no deal materializes, “we will end our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up all their power plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island (and possibly any desalination plants we haven’t yet touched!).”
He framed the threat as retribution for the many U.S. service members and others whom Iran allegedly brutalized and killed during the previous regime’s 47-year “reign of terror.”
Earlier, Trump had set a March 27 deadline for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and warned he would strike Iranian power plants if it remained closed; he later pushed that deadline to April 6.
