CNN reported that the Iranian cargo ship seized by U.S. forces after being fired on the 19th (local time) will likely become U.S. property. U.S. Central Command said it captured the cargo ship Tuska after the vessel departed China and headed for Bandar Abbas, Iran. CENTCOM says the ship ignored U.S. warnings for six hours and continued moving. U.S. forces ordered the vessel to stop its engines, then fired multiple rounds from an MK 45 5-inch (127 mm) naval gun, disabling the propulsion system.Former U.S. Navy Capt. Carl Schuster told CNN the Tuska’s cargo could be treated as “prize” property — similar to material seized from an enemy during hostilities. Analysts expect the ship to be moved soon to an anchorage or port for inspection, and they say any cargo found during that process will likely be claimed by the U.S. government.Former Royal Australian Navy officer Jennifer Parker said the crew’s fate will hinge on nationality. Indian and Filipino sailors would likely disembark and be repatriated quickly, she said, while Iranian crew members could face detention. If any Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps personnel were aboard, Parker added, they could be treated as prisoners of war. She also warned that if the ship carried weapons or military equipment bound for Iran, the crew could be detained.MarineTraffic data show the Tuska was listed as carrying cargo at the time of seizure, but authorities have not disclosed what that cargo was. The Tuska, which has shuttled between China and Iran in recent years, has been under U.S. State Department sanctions since 2018.#U.S.military #CENTCOM #Iran #ship #seizureYonhap News TV — For inquiries and tips: KakaoTalk/LINE jebo23 Choi Jin-kyung (highjean@yna.co.kr)
