The ship cleared the incident area five days after the blaze and took about 12 hours to reach the Dubai repair facility. Crews will conduct repairs on site, and a government investigation team will examine the causes. The team includes three investigators from the Central Maritime Safety Tribunal and four forensic specialists from the National Fire Agency. The inquiry’s central question is whether the fire resulted from an external attack — for example, by Iran — or from an internal cause such as a vessel malfunction. Opinions within Iran diverge. Iran’s foreign ministry and its embassy in South Korea have denied any involvement in the Namu fire, while Iranian state media reported that the Korean ship was targeted for violating maritime rules, a claim that conflicts with Tehran’s diplomatic statements. Seoul’s foreign ministry has taken a cautious posture, saying officials must first establish the facts and determine the cause; for now, it will focus on the accident investigation. Meanwhile, 24 crew members, including six South Koreans, remain aboard the Namu during repairs. Officials say they will consider having the crew disembark if repairs extend for several months.
