Hanwha Aerospace Expands Influence: 3 Additional Chunmoo Rocket Launchers for Estonia

Hanwha Aerospace will deliver three additional Cheonmu precision-guided multiple-launch rocket systems to Estonia. The follow-on contract, finalized five months after a December agreement for six launchers, underscores Hanwha Aerospace’s expanding footprint in Northern Europe.

On the 11th, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and Estonia’s Defense Investment Center (ECDI) signed an export contract under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement. The deal supplements last December’s Cheonmu purchase, valued at about €290 million (approximately $310.3 million). The initial contract covered six Cheonmu launchers, three missile types (CGR-080, CTM-MR, CTM-290), and operational and training support.

Under its National Defense Development Plan 2031 (RKAK 2031), Estonia is accelerating the fielding and modernization of multiple-launch rocket systems. The latest contract demonstrates Hanwha Aerospace’s ability to meet Estonia’s delivery schedule and reflects the growing trust developed since the earlier agreement.

Estonia’s Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said the three additional Cheonmu launchers are “significant for strengthening Estonia’s defense capabilities,” calling the procurement “an example of the continuing close cooperation with Hanwha.”

Son Jae-il, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace, said the company is “honored that this additional supply will help strengthen Estonia’s defense and defense-industry ecosystem.” He added that Hanwha will continue promoting its defense solutions across the Baltic region and work to deepen its role as Estonia’s trusted strategic partner.

Defense analysts said the Cheonmu follow-on order highlights the rapid progress of South Korea–Estonia defense cooperation, which began with exports of the K9 self-propelled howitzer and has produced tangible results in a short time.
