President Donald Trump said U.S. and Nigerian forces jointly removed the No. 2 leader of the Islamic State (IS) in a coordinated military operation. In a Truth Social post on the 15th (local time), Trump wrote, “Tonight, at my direction, brave U.S. and Nigerian forces flawlessly executed a carefully planned, highly complex operation to remove a terrorist who had been active around the world from the battlefield.”Trump identified the militant as Abu Bilal al‑Minuki, saying the IS deputy may have thought he could hide in Africa but “did not know we had sources tracking his activities.” He added that al‑Minuki “can no longer threaten Africans with terror or help plan attacks targeting Americans,” and that his removal has “significantly diminished IS’s global operations.”Trump has previously signaled the possibility of U.S. military intervention in Nigeria, where Islamist extremist attacks are frequent and Christians have faced persecution. Acting on his orders, U.S. forces coordinated with Nigerian troops to strike IS positions in Nigeria on Dec. 25 last year.#IslamicState #IS #Trump #Terror #TerroristFor Yonhap News TV story tips and inquiries: KakaoTalk/LINE jebo23 Shin Ju‑won (nanjuhee@yna.co.kr)
