DGCA diverts incoming flights to nearby airports and suspends all operations at Kuwait International Airport
Kuwait aviation authorities said on June 2 that Kuwait International Airport sustained casualties and facility damage after coming under missile and drone strikes they attributed to Iran. Reuters quoted the Kuwait Defense Ministry saying the strikes “severely damaged” airport buildings and caused casualties.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said the T1 terminal was struck by drones and missiles, leaving multiple internal airport facilities heavily damaged and producing injuries on site. The DGCA activated the airport’s full emergency plan, diverted inbound flights to nearby airports and suspended all operations at Kuwait International Airport until further notice to secure safety and prevent additional harm.
The western sector of Kuwait International Airport houses a joint operations hub used by U.S. and multinational forces for troop movements and regional logistics. Earlier, U.S. forces said two missiles launched by Iran toward Kuwait failed to reach their targets, either crashing or breaking up in flight.
