Korea Automobile & Mobility Industry Association Issues Welcome Statement on March 12

South Korea’s auto industry welcomed the National Assembly’s passage of the special U.S. investment law.
Korea Automobile & Mobility Industry Association (KAMA) issued a statement on March 12 thanking the National Assembly for passing the bill through bipartisan cooperation to help the auto industry, a national strategic sector, navigate its current crisis. It also thanked government authorities for pursuing active trade negotiations.
KAMA said the industry had been worried that reinstating export tariffs to the U.S. — raising them from 15% to 25% — would weaken export competitiveness, reduce domestic production volumes and shrink the overall automotive ecosystem. It welcomed the special law’s passage, saying it removes tariff uncertainty in the United States — South Korean automakers’ largest market — and restores a level playing field with competing countries.
The association said it expects the law to help create a stable business environment across the auto industry, including automakers and parts suppliers, and to significantly boost investment. It emphasized that the industry will use this moment to continue investing in technological innovation, productivity improvements and the transition to next‑generation vehicles so South Korea can strengthen its position as a global mobility leader.
It added that it will actively pursue measures to strengthen the domestic production base, including stimulating domestic demand and fostering a virtuous, resilient parts supply ecosystem.
