Namyangju’s Crackdown on Illegal Motorcycles: What You Need to Know About Safety Standards

Namyangju City launched a focused joint enforcement sweep aimed at eliminating noise and illegal modifications on two-wheeled vehicles.

The city said on March 20 that the operation took place on March 19 in the Dasan-dong area, conducted with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority’s Gyeonggi Northern Office and the Namyangju Southern Police Station.

The inspection targeted key violations, including illegal tuning (headlight alterations and unauthorized muffler mods), breaches of safety standards (unauthorized modification or installation of lighting), damaged or obscured license plates, and vehicles exceeding permitted noise limits.

Officials inspected 42 motorcycles and scooters and uncovered 12 violations in total: four safety-standard breaches and eight cases of poorly maintained or obscured license plates. Vehicle owners will be ordered to restore compliance and face administrative sanctions under the Automobile Management Act.

The city’s vehicle management chief said, “Illegal vehicles not only threaten public safety but also harm residents’ quality of life. We will continue close cooperation with the police and other agencies to sustain enforcement and create a traffic environment that reassures the public.”
