Chevrolet is fitting its mid-engine Corvette C8 with a new naturally aspirated V8.

The 6.7-liter LS6 V8 unveiled this week replaces the outgoing 6.2-liter LT2 outright, representing a generational change rather than a bolt-on upgrade.

The move is being framed as a defining update that reshapes performance and character across the Corvette lineup.

More power and better efficiency

The LS6 is rated at 542 horsepower and 705 N·m (about 520 lb-ft) of torque.

Both output and torque rise over the LT2, and the compression ratio jumps from 11.5:1 to 13.0:1.

Chevrolet has also moved from pure direct injection to a combined injection strategy to boost both efficiency and performance.

The design keeps a traditional overhead-valve layout while integrating modern hardware and controls.

Grand Sport returns as the lineup’s new middle ground

The LS6 will anchor a revived Grand Sport model.

Positioned between the base Stingray and the track-focused Z06, the Grand Sport aims to blend daily usability with genuine track capability.

It uses the Z06’s widebody architecture but is tuned for a more practical, road-friendly balance, and it’s expected to be a key volume and performance seller for the lineup.

The Grand Sport name, rooted in Corvette’s racing history, makes a return.

Hybrid expansion

Up to 731 horsepower available

Chevrolet will also introduce an all-wheel-drive hybrid variant called the Grand Sport X.

A front-mounted electric motor paired with the LS6 engine produces a combined system output of up to 731 horsepower.

Positioned to replace the Corvette E-Ray, the Grand Sport X pushes both performance and electrification while preserving the car’s naturally aspirated V8 character.

Analysts say the strategy lets Corvette keep the emotional appeal of a combustion V8 while staking out a distinct position in an electrifying sports-car market.
