Chinese EV maker Leapmotor will officially unveil its flagship large SUV, the D19, on April 16.

Blind preorders are already open, and the model has drawn attention for its technology and claimed safety performance ahead of the launch.

In cold-weather testing, Leapmotor says the D19 maintained speeds of 80 km/h (about 50 mph) and 120 km/h (about 75 mph) even after both tires on the same side were damaged simultaneously — a result that has attracted headlines.

The D19 measures 5,252 mm (about 17 ft 3 in) with a 3,110 mm (about 10 ft 2 in) wheelbase.

That puts it in full-size territory — larger than the Hyundai Palisade — promising a roomier interior.

The design follows Leapmotor’s current family look, featuring a “star ring” front light bar and split headlamps.

The battery-electric (EV) version includes a frunk and shows some exterior differences compared with the range-extended (EREV) model.

At the rear, the D19 uses ISD interactive lighting and integrated tail lamps to project a futuristic image.

Leapmotor describes the cabin as a “moving smart space.”

Digital appointments include a 60-inch AR head-up display, a 17.3-inch center touchscreen, a 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen and a 6-inch rear control panel.

Comfort and convenience features include second-row zero-gravity seats, 12-layer premium seating, an in-car refrigerator (8.1 L), an oxygen generator and a scent system.

The D19 can be configured with 5-, 6- or 7-seat layouts, targeting both family and VIP-transport use cases.

Target Pricing: 250,000–300,000 CNY

Two powertrains will be offered.

The EREV uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine as a generator paired with an 80.3 kWh battery, enabling up to 500 km (about 311 miles) of electric driving range. System output is rated at 536 hp.

The pure electric (EV) version pairs a 115 kWh battery with a 1,000 V high-voltage system to claim up to 720 km (about 448 miles) on the CLTC cycle, with combined output of 724 hp.

Leapmotor is targeting a price band of roughly 250,000–300,000 yuan (approximately $35,000–$42,000), or about 55,000,000–66,000,000 KRW (approximately $41,250–$49,500), which would be competitive for a full-size SUV with this equipment level.

If the D19 reaches the U.S. market, it will test demand in the large-SUV segment long dominated by the Hyundai Palisade.
