Seohae Line Train Resumes Full Service: What This Means for Commuters in Goyang

Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province announced the Seohae Line resumed normal service on April 20, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Since a disruption last October caused by a defect in an intermediate train coupling, the Seohae Line had been operating reduced service and running trains more slowly on certain segments to ensure safety.

That reduction — particularly fewer runs between Ilsan and Daegok — prolonged inconvenience for commuters.

The city repeatedly urged the Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) and other relevant agencies to restore full service and took active measures to ease the public’s hardship.

With service restored, daily runs between Ilsan and Daegok will increase from 14 to 62. Travel time between Daegok and Choji will be cut from 58 minutes to 51 minutes — a reduction of about seven minutes — improving overall conditions for riders.

Regularized schedules should also ease crowding during peak commute hours.

The city said it will continue to monitor ridership and congestion and, in consultation with relevant agencies, press for further improvements to address any lingering commuter complaints.
