[Hongseong] Use of the Naepo New Town public bikeshare, \”Naepo-ssing,\” has surged among local residents.

The Chungnam Innovation City Management Headquarters of the Local Government Association said warmer weather, along with a rotating driving restriction for public agency vehicles, helped push Naepo-ssing usage to a one-day high of 1,050 trips, cementing it as an eco-friendly way to get around.

However, some riders have been returning bikes to undesignated spots — such as inside apartment complexes or along roadsides — instead of official docking stations, causing persistent inconvenience and operational challenges.

To improve user convenience and operational efficiency, the Innovation City Management Headquarters is reinforcing facilities and operations, including adding more docks.

In May, officials plan to introduce an automatic payment system that will charge users after they register a payment method once, a change intended to make returns easier and reduce abandoned or unreturned bikes.

Under the new system, fees will be charged automatically after the initial payment method registration, with no separate payment step. Officials expect this will clarify return procedures and cut down on abandoned bikes.

A spokesperson for the Innovation City Management Headquarters said, \”Naepo-ssing is a public asset that all citizens share, so establishing proper usage habits is important,\” and urged residents to register a payment method and cooperate responsibly.
