[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] Lee Jae, Audrey Nuna and Ray AMI — the voices behind Hunt Rix in K-pop Demon Hunters — set the Oscars stage ablaze with a stirring performance of “Golden.” The Netflix animated feature followed its Best Animated Feature win by claiming Best Original Song for the track.
On the 16th (KST), Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles hosted the 98th Academy Awards.
At the ceremony, the film’s original song “Golden” prevailed over nominees including Diane Warren’s “Dear Me,” Rafael Sadek’s “I Ride to You,” Nicholas Pike’s “Swiss Dreams of Joy” and Nick Cave’s “Train Dreams” to take home Best Original Song.
The victory brought K-pop Demon Hunters its second Oscar, adding to its Best Animated Feature trophy.
Holding the trophy, Lee Jae reflected on the moment: “People used to tease me when I said I liked K‑pop, but now everyone sings in Korean. Like this song, this award isn’t just about success — it’s about the resilience to endure and recover.”
Lee Jae, Audrey Nuna and Ray AMI — who provide Hunt Rix’s vocals in the film — performed “Golden” live. Their appearance followed a dramatic introduction featuring traditional Korean percussion, dancers in black hanbok and gat, a female pansori vocalist in hanbok, and a traditional white-cloth dance that framed the stage.
The trio emerged in white-and-gold costumes that echoed the film characters Lumi, Mira and Joy, drawing a standing ovation. Hollywood stars including Leonardo DiCaprio and Emma Stone were even seen waving light sticks in support.
K-pop Demon Hunters follows K‑pop girl group Hunt Rix as they battle evil spirits to save the world. Since its June release last year, Netflix reports the film has surpassed 500 million global streams, becoming the platform’s most-watched title and surpassing Squid Game.
The song “Golden” also spent eight weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and topped the U.K. charts for four consecutive weeks.
