Kim Da-hyun’s Dream Concert: A 12-Year Journey to Stardom Unveiled

Daniel Kim Views

[Sports Today reporter Yun Hye-young] Singer Kim Da-hyun’s debut solo concert, “Dream,” is enjoying a successful run and continues to draw enthusiastic crowds.

On March 14, Kim Da-hyun staged “Dream” at Busan KBS Hall, where the 3,300-seat venue was awash in pink. The tour kicked off in Seoul on March 7 and is set to stop at Yeungnam University’s Cheonma Arts Center in Daegu on March 28. Her recent performance at Kyung Hee University’s Grand Peace Hall in Seoul also sold out.

Fans bearing pink glow sticks packed the plaza outside Busan KBS Hall well before curtain. Onstage, the 18-year-old high schooler’s journey unfolded like a panorama. Having begun singing trot at age six in hopes of appearing on the TV program National Singing Contest, she spent the next 12 years collecting trophies at competitions and establishing herself as a prominent figure in Korea’s trot scene.

The show balanced upbeat, energetic numbers with quieter, more intimate moments that amplified the emotional impact. After the music video for “Mother,” the title track from her second full-length album, played on the big screen, Kim launched into a poignant rendition that prompted middle-aged and older audience members to wipe away tears, creating a hushed, reverent mood.

Over roughly 120 minutes, Kim Da-hyun channeled her passion into a performance that offered hope and uplifting fantasies to fans worn down by daily hardships and social pressures. From the first note to the final bow, the crowd waved pink glow sticks in support of her rosy vision.

The concert’s emotional weight was heightened by the prominent role her family played in bringing the production to life. Her father, Kim Bong-gon, served as the show’s executive director, overseeing the concert’s planning and staging — a detail that drew significant attention.

Kim Bong-gon had been developing his daughter’s national solo tour for two years. Father and daughter used every spare moment to discuss and refine the concert. They were determined not only to trace the path Kim Da-hyun took to realize her dream of becoming a singer, but also to deliver a message of hope to a wide audience.

Reflecting on the process, Kim said, “I finally realized that raising a child in this profession isn’t something parents do alone; it takes countless people working together.”

Having pursued her dream of singing since she was four, Kim Da-hyun met fans on a stage that showcased that dream after 12 years. “The ‘Dream’ concert is never just my stage,” she said. “This dream became real — and could succeed — because of the many fans, teachers, and my family who have always supported and loved me.”

She added, “This first concert is a great honor and a blessing not only for me but for my family. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has supported and loved my dream.”
