On March 10th, Kim Gi-seo, a 53-year-old independent member of the Chungnam Provincial Council, held a press conference at the Seodong briefing room in the Buyeo County Office. He declared, “I’ve felt a pressing need for innovative solutions to overcome our current challenges as I’ve visited local businesses daily. This realization has driven my decision to run for Buyeo County Mayor.”

Kim highlighted his experience working alongside Mayor Park Jeong-hyeon during the 7th and 8th terms as a provincial council member. He noted, “While the county’s infrastructure has seen significant improvements, our focus now must shift to developing content and programs – the ‘software’ that will build upon this foundation.”

Kim outlined four key campaign promises: attracting 7 million annual visitors to the Baekma River, integrating sports, history, and culture, implementing a century-long agricultural strategy for the Goodtrae brand, and establishing a community-driven energy self-sufficiency model.

Addressing his departure from the Democratic Party, where he had long been a member, Kim explained, “An incident during the party member recruitment process led to my resignation. All allegations, including forgery of private documents, violations of party law, and defamation, were dismissed with ‘no charges’.”

He added, “There have been recent false rumors about my reinstatement to the Democratic Party being denied. I will take immediate legal action against those spreading such misinformation.”

Kim announced, “I will resign from my council position before the deadline of May 5th. All preparations are complete, and I am fully committed to this campaign.”

Kim was elected as a Democratic candidate for the Chungnam Provincial Council in the 11th and 12th terms. Notably, he left the Democratic Party during a member recruitment process last August and is currently serving as an independent.
