[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] Musical actor Nam Kyung-joo has been referred to prosecutors on sexual assault charges, and Hongik University, where he serves as an associate professor, has initiated personnel measures.
On the 12th, Hongik University’s Public Relations Office told Sports Today that, in accordance with university personnel regulations, it has begun personnel procedures regarding Nam, who currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Performing Arts, and that no other details have been confirmed.
Earlier, Seoul’s Bangbae Police Station referred Nam to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office last month without detention on a charge of rape by coercion.
Police allege Nam attempted to sexually assault a woman identified as A in Seoul last year. According to reports, the woman felt threatened, left the scene and called the emergency number 112.
Nam denied the allegations during police questioning, but police concluded there was sufficient evidence and forwarded the case to prosecutors. Nam told Dispatch that an investigation is underway but declined to comment on the allegations. As of the afternoon of the 11th, his social media accounts remained closed.
