President Lee Jae-myung and First Lady Kim Hye-kyung visited Bansong Market in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, on March 15 after attending the 66th anniversary ceremony commemorating the March 15 Movement. They checked grocery prices and spoke with market vendors.

Bansong Market opened in 1988 and is widely known for its Kalguksu Alley. Blue House deputy spokesperson An Gwi-ryeong said in a written briefing that the president had also visited the market in March 2024 while serving as leader of the Democratic Party.

Upon the president’s arrival, vendors and residents applauded and cheered. The couple responded with handshakes and high-fives; An added that they crouched down to meet the eyes of several children and greet them.

Using Onnuri gift certificates, the couple bought strawberries, tomatoes, lettuce, seasoned greens (namul), and scallions. First Lady Kim also stopped at a cosmetics shop to purchase sheet masks and other items.

The president sampled bungeoppang (carp-shaped pastries) and tteokbokki on the spot, saying, “They’re delicious.” First Lady Kim bought kkwabaegi (twisted doughnuts) and shared them with the children.
