Police arrested a man in his 50s after he caused a crash while driving under the influence of a psychotropic drug in a residential neighborhood in Seoul.
On March 17, Seoul’s Jungnang Police Station said it had booked a man in his 50s identified as Lee on suspicion of drugged driving under the Road Traffic Act and is investigating.
According to police, Lee allegedly collided with another vehicle at about 9:06 a.m. on March 13 while driving in a residential area of Jungnang District. Officers at the scene said his speech was slurred and he appeared unsteady.
A roadside drug screening tested positive for zolpidem, a controlled psychotropic medication commonly prescribed as Ambien. Lee told police he had taken cold medicine the day before.
Police said they will review the National Forensic Service’s confirmatory lab results and prescription records to determine whether to press charges under the Narcotics Control Act.
