Climate, Energy and Environment Minister Kim Seong-hwan said on March 22 that the current situation cannot be resolved by government efforts alone. He urged the public to use mass transit and to take part in everyday energy-saving measures, such as charging electronic devices and electric vehicles during daytime hours when solar generation is abundant.

On his Facebook page, Kim wrote that if people act together, the country can more effectively weather this crisis.

He warned that the prolonged turmoil in the Middle East has heightened concerns about energy supply. The government has raised its resource-security alert for crude oil to the \”caution\” level and is closely managing the situation.

The ministry said it is operating coal-fired plants with greater flexibility and pushing to restart nuclear reactors currently under maintenance to prevent disruptions to power delivery. It is also accelerating the rapid deployment of renewable energy to strengthen supply capacity.

On support for vulnerable households, Kim said authorities are monitoring in real time the depletion of energy vouchers provided to low-income families and will prepare additional assistance measures through the so-called \”war supplemental budget\” to ensure no one is left without help.
