[iNews24 reporter So Jin-seop] Beginning this month, Danyang County in North Chungcheong Province will begin receiving foreign seasonal workers in phased arrivals, placing them at 112 local farms.

On the 29th, the county announced it will bring in 538 foreign seasonal workers this year, a 52.4% increase over last year’s 353 workers, who were placed at 83 farms.

On the 26th, the county held a welcome ceremony for the first group of incoming workers at the County Agricultural Welfare Hall, attended by employers and sponsors.

The county is also advancing a public seasonal-worker program in partnership with Dangoeul Nonghyup and other regional agricultural cooperatives.

Under this public model, institutions directly manage and assign workers. The program has been well received for supplying much-needed labor to small farms and to aging farmers who struggle to secure help.

Hong Seok-wan, an official in Danyang County’s Agriculture and Livestock Division, said, “Because agriculture depends on people, we will provide careful oversight through the program to ensure both workers and farms are satisfied.”
