2026 Winter Olympics: How Yoon Seung-eun Made History with a Bronze Medal in Snowboard Big Air

[Yongin, South Korea] – Yongin Special City Mayor Lee Sang-il took to Facebook on February 10 to congratulate and express gratitude to Yoo Seung-eun, who clinched a bronze medal in the women’s snowboard big air event at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.

“Yoo Seung-eun, an 18-year-old student from Seongbok High School in Yongin’s Suji District, secured the bronze medal in the women’s snowboard big air final at the Livigno Snowpark in Italy on February 10 (Korean time),” Mayor Lee announced proudly.

“On behalf of our 1.1 million citizens, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and thanks to Yoo for bringing honor to Yongin and South Korea,” the mayor stated. He also expressed deep appreciation to Yoo’s family and school officials for their unwavering support.

Mayor Lee highlighted the historic nature of Yoo’s achievement, noting, “Yoo is the first South Korean female athlete to compete in snowboard big air since it became an official event at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Securing a bronze medal in her Olympic debut is truly extraordinary.”

The mayor emphasized Yoo’s world-class talent, pointing out that she finished just 1.25 points behind the silver medalist. “It’s incredibly impressive that she medaled in such a demanding event, which involves navigating 30-meter slopes, launching from massive ramps, and being judged on jumps, rotations, distance, and landings,” he remarked.

Looking to the future, Mayor Lee expressed excitement about Yoo’s potential. “For an 18-year-old to medal in her first Olympics is remarkable.
