Czech starter Daniel Padišák’s WBC debut cut short, pulled after just one out
In a disappointing start to their 2026 World Baseball Classic campaign, the Czech Republic saw their starting pitcher Daniel Padišák struggle mightily in the Pool C opener against South Korea at the Tokyo Dome on March 5th. Padišák’s outing was brief and turbulent, lasting only 0.1 innings before being yanked from the mound.
The right-hander’s woes began immediately as he issued a leadoff walk to Kim Do-young. After retiring Jones on a fly ball to left, Padišák surrendered a hit to Lee Jung-hoo and walked Ahn Hyun-min, loading the bases with just one out.
The situation quickly escalated when Moon Bo-kyung stepped to the plate. On a 2-1 count, Padišák served up a fat pitch that Moon crushed for a grand slam, putting South Korea up 4-0 and effectively ending the Czech starter’s night.
With their ace faltering, the Czech coaching staff wasted no time in making a change, bringing in reliever Jeff Barto to stop the bleeding.
As the game progressed to the second inning, South Korea maintained their 4-0 lead, leaving the Czech Republic with an uphill battle in their WBC opener.
