By Kang Tae-gu, Sports Today — The Hanwha Eagles snapped the SSG Landers’ three-game winning streak in exhibition play.
Hanwha beat SSG 8-0 in a preseason matchup at Daejeon’s Hanwha Life Ballpark on the 14th during the 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO League exhibitions.
The victory evened Hanwha’s exhibition record at 2-2. SSG also fell to 2-2 after the streak-ending loss.
Hanwha starter Moon Dong-ju was sharp, throwing three scoreless innings with no hits, no walks and one strikeout.
Offensively, Heo In-seo fueled the win, going 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored. Choi In-ho added a strong performance, finishing 3-for-5.
SSG starter Kim Geon-woo also pitched well, working five innings and allowing three hits (one homer), four strikeouts, one walk and one run.
Hanwha provided the lone early spark. In the bottom of the second with two outs and nobody on, Heo turned on Kim’s first pitch — a 143 km/h fastball (about 88.9 mph) — and deposited it over the left fielder’s reach for a solo shot.
SSG, meanwhile, couldn’t solve Moon. In the top of the first, with two outs, Choi Jeong reached second on a left-field error but Kim Jae-hwan grounded into a fielder’s choice, squandering the opportunity.
In the second inning, leadoff hitter Ko Myung-jun reached on an error at third but SSG failed to follow with a hit, and the side was retired in order in the third.
After a quiet stretch, Hanwha woke up in the sixth. With one out and runners on first and third via hits from Han Ji-yoon and Jang Gyu-hyun, Kim Tae-yeon drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left.
Hanwha broke the game open in the seventh. With no outs and a runner on first after Lee Do-yoon’s infield hit, Heo launched a two-run homer to push the lead to 4-0. Choi Yu-bin reached on an infield single, Lee Jin-young drew a walk and Choi In-ho followed with a single to load the bases.
With one out and the bases full, Jang Gyu-hyun delivered a two-run RBI single. Kim Tae-yeon was then hit by a pitch, Hwang Young-muk drew a bases-loaded walk, and Lee Do-yoon added an RBI on a grounder to second, quickly extending the lead to 8-0.
SSG was held scoreless through nine innings, and Hanwha closed out a convincing win.
